WebQuest FAQ
- Who can submit WebQuests to be included in the eMINTS National Center database?
At this time, all official eMINTS teachers — meaning those trained by eMINTS staff and those trained by certified instructional specialists who are enrolled or have completed the eMINTS PD4ETS program — are encouraged to submit WebQuests for the eMINTS National Center database.
- Why did eMINTS change the WebQuest submission criteria?
eMINTS wants the quality of WebQuests to continue to improve. After using a WebQuest with their classes, teachers often find things they want to change. Rather than changing WebQuests that are already posted, the new process offers WebQuests that have been tried and adjusted to meet the needs of real students in real classrooms.
- When I look at the list of WebQuests linked from the eMINTS website how will I know which ones were accepted under the old criteria and which are new ones?
New WebQuests will be marked with a symbol ( ) indicating they were evaluated and accepted under the new criteria.
- What about the WebQuest I submitted previously and am working on revising?
All WebQuests that were submitted before the new criteria were established (January 2006) will still be evaluated and posted under the old criteria.
- Why does it take so long to get the scoring guide back?
We hope the new submission process will help teachers put more thought and experience into their WebQuests before they are submitted. The new submission criteria are intended to encourage more “polished” products that will permit evaluators and submitters to spend less time in evaluating, revising and resubmitting WebQuests since only WebQuests that earn 65 points or higher on the self-evaluation should be submitted. The new process should also spread submissions across time instead of large groups of submissions arriving at the conclusion of each year’s WebQuest professional development session.
- How will I know if my WebQuest is accepted?
You will receive a congratulations e-mail message when your WebQuest is accepted. If a WebQuest fails to meet the standard for posting in the eMINTS National Center website collection, e-mail will be sent to the submitter explaining how the quest can be improved and resubmitted.
- What score is required for a WebQuest to be linked to from the eMINTS site?
The eMINTS National Center website will provide a link to WebQuests that score 65 points or higher on this scoring guide.
- What if I do not want to submit my WebQuest?
That is fine. We know not every WebQuest written is ready for submission. It takes significant time and effort on the author’s part to prepare a WebQuest so another teacher can pick it up and implement it. During your career you may choose to submit some WebQuests while you don’t want to polish others for publishing.
- What if I leave my district? Will my WebQuest stay on the eMINTS site?
The eMINTS website does not actually host teachers’ WebQuest content; it provides a list of links to WebQuests posted on their classroom websites. If you leave your district or your WebQuest’s URL changes for any reason, please send e-mail to emints-info@emints.org to specify the new URL where it is posted so others may continue to access it.
- Does someone from eMINTS check that the links stay live and up-to-date?
Since WebQuests are hosted on teachers' websites eMINTS has no way to update or change them. WebQuest authors should check the links regularly to see that all resources are still live and appropriate. When authors check their WebQuests it is beneficial to include a visible “Date Last Updated” statement so other teachers know the information is up-to-date.
