Grades 3-5 Science
WebQuests use World Wide Web resources for inquiry-based
instructional activities. Missouri teachers have created the high-quality WebQuests
offered here. All have been evaluated by eMINTS staff using a scoring guide. Show-Me
Standards met by each WebQuest are listed.

A Journey Through the Systems |
Watch out! With this WebQuest, you'll be shrunk and lost inside the body, struggling through the systems as you attempt to find your way out. As you explore, you'll find that all of the systems work together to keep the body moving, working and functioning the right way. You'll create a map complete with billboards and road signs to demonstrate where the systems merge. Luckily, you won't be lost inside the body forever. Eventually you will find a way out, and the way you choose is completely up to you.

In the It's Raining Cats and Dogs WebQuest, students will work as a publishing team to create a children's book that explains the water cycle in a fun and entertaining way. The students jig-saw the parts of the water cycle, teach their classmates and create a book. They also get to share their knowledge with other students while having a book reading just like real writers do. This is an excellent review of the water cycle and the kids love it.

The end result is a published puzzle which can be put together into a magazine and distributed to all students. I tried to make the WebQuest flexible enough that students could do several themes or one based on teachers' needs.

animal project. Each student chooses an animal to research. The students collect
clues about the animals they chose and write them in their clue notebooks. Finally,
the students create a presentation and PowerPoint slide show consisting of two
slides. The first slide will give facts about the animal without giving the animal's
name. The other students will try to guess the animal. The second slide will give
a picture of the animal and a few interesting facts. At the end of the lesson,
students will be experts on the animal they chose to research. They will also
learn about many other animals through the class slide show and presentations.
