Missouri technology advocacy opportunity

The Show-Me TechKnowledge Committee invites you to exhibit and/or present a learning activity showcasing technology. This special event will take place at the Third Floor Rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City on January 19, 2010. Exhibits/presentations will be displayed from 8 a.m. through 12:30 p.m.

Take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate to legislators, educators, students and others statewide how technology is currently being used in Missouri schools to enhance learning and improve student achievement.

Applications and information about the event are available ....

For more information, contact Becki Sanders or call 573-636-4395 (local) or 888-636-4395 (toll-free).

eMINTS at NSBA T+L Conference

Three Missouri eMINTS teachers were selected to present at the National Schools Boards Association Technology + Learning (NSBA T+L) October 27-30, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Lori Mathys, elementary eMINTS teacher from Rockwood R-VI, Denis Knight, middle school eMINTS teacher from Junction Hill C-12, and Tish Warner, high school eMINTS teacher from Worth Co R-III will take turns demonstrating how they teach in their eMINTS classrooms in a model classroom exposition at the conference.

Attendees will be able to participate in the model classroom as either "students" or observers. The "students" will use the equipment in the classroom as the teacher "teaches" a lesson using eMINTS strategies and methods. The observers will listen and ask questions of the session facilitators, Monica Beglau, Executive Director of the eMINTS National Center and Lorie Kaplan, eMINTS Program Director. The classroom equipment is provided courtesy of SMART Technologies, Intel and Hewlett-Packard. SMART Technologies also sponsored the teachers' travel and NSBA provided complimentary conference registrations.

Congratulations to these special eMINTS teachers and a big THANK YOU for all of the work they have done to represent eMINTS!

Optional teacher portfolio registration open

Missouri and out-of-state teachers who are not required to submit portfolios but who would like to do so for an opportunity to secure DESE recognition (in Missouri) and access to resources provided by the eMINTS National Center to veteran eMINTS teachers should register for enrollment in the appropriate online portfolio submission Moodle course no later than November 20, 2009

  • Teachers currently in year 2 of eMINTS Comprehensive or eMINTS4All professional development who are receiving their professional development from a district-level trainer.
  • Veteran eMINTS or eMINTS4All teachers who completed their professional development programs prior to spring 2008 with an eMINTS staff member OR a participant or certified graduate of the eMINTS PD4ETS program. The PD4ETS participant or graduate must have met all program requirements in effect at the time. Veteran eMINTS and eMINTS4All teachers pay a $50 portfolio review fee.

Completed registration forms will be reviewed for acceptance into the online Moodle course where portfolios will be submitted. Only individuals who have met (or expect to meet) program attendance requirements and received professional development from an eMINTS staff member, participant of PD4ETS or certified graduate of PD4ETS in good standing will be admitted to the online course. All submission guidelines and item rubrics will be available in the online course. Acceptance into the online Moodle course does not constitute a commitment to submit a portfolio; however, enrollment is valid only for one portfolio submission cycle.

Discussion list reminders

With the first few weeks of school getting well underway here in the US and our Australian colleagues on their way to the end of term, here a few reminders about the eMINTS discussion list:

  • attachments are NOT possible with the list - we do this as a security measure and to avoid overfilling Inboxes that may have specific limits on their capacity. If you have something to share, make it a pdf or document linked to your website or portal.
  • if you want to remove yourself from the list, please follow the instructions provided - you have many options here as well such as receiving all of the posts as a digest at the end of each day rather than individually throughout the day. This is also the place to unsubscribe for awhile (summer vacation) and then re-subscribe when you return.
  • use the great searchable public archives feature - find that great video resource or see all of the past posts about keyboarding programs that have been submitted.
  • remember that you are putting an email in more than 1,200 Inboxes when you post to the list or reply to something on the list. Be careful to COPY AND PASTE the email address from someone who posted a question or item to the "TO" line in your email client if you wish to correspond only with that person.
  • use the list to ask questions, start a conversation, join the conversation, and most of all to share ideas and stories about how your eMINTS or eMINTS4All classrooms are making a difference for students across the world.

Share the good news

If you have good news to share about an eMINTS or eMINTS4All classroom, an eMINTS instructional specialist or other educators in your school or district, please send the relevant information to emints-info@emints.org and we will publish the good news for all so see on the Weekly Update. It is always inspiring to hear about what everyone is doing and all of the recognition that comes your way helps people see the importance of educational technology.
