Educational research site
For those seeking high quality educational research about education, check out the What Works Clearinghouse. This site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and provides great information about the most recent educational research on many content areas. You can search for specific topics and even customize your research findings and print your summary.
The reports are all done by independent researchers and will help you avoid the pitfalls of "research" conducted by various curriculum companies or others who might have a vested interest in how the research turns out (in support of their products). For example, here is a report on strategies for early reading intervention published in February 2009 - http://ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/pdf/practiceguides/rti_reading_pg_021809.pdf
It is a long report but there are some great summary tables that could help schools or districts seeking research-based programs. Use the qualities or characteristics identified in the report when researching various commercial products to see how well they match research-based practices. There is a helpful glossary of terms to define some of the research terms you may encounter.
ISTE also provides educational research assistance at their site.
