Speak Up 2008 open through December 19

All eMINTS school teachers, administrators and students are strongly encouraged to participate in Speak Up 2008.

Since fall of 2003, the annual Speak Up project has collected and reported on the views of over 1.2 million K-12 students, teachers, administrators and parents, representing more than 14,000 schools in all 50 states. The survey presents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder input on education, technology, 21st century skills and schools of the future. Survey data are used regularly by education, business and policy leaders to inform federal, state and local education programs.

Each state has a goal for participation so you may be hearing about this survey from others in your state. Missouri's goal is to achieve at least one percent (1%) of total student enrollment and, with your help, we can accomplish this goal. Note that participating schools and districts will receive free, online access to their results in February 2009. The 2008 topics include:technology usage in and out of the classroom; science education and career exploration; 21st Century skills: information and media literacy; emerging trends: digital content, broadband access and policy; online learning; and designing the 21st century school.

Visual literacy resource

Check out an interesting resource about the many types of visual literacy ....

It is formatted to look like the periodic table of elements, but each element is a type of visual. The table is impressive enough, but when you mouse over each element, an example of the type of visual pops up.
