Teacher

If you are a teacher who is interested in getting eMINTS equipment and professional development for your classroom —

The eMINTS National Center does not provide funding to schools or districts to purchase equipment. eMINTS charges participation fees to districts for its professional development programs. Most districts require that teachers have authorization from their school principals to apply for eMINTS professional development programs since the fees are paid by the district.

Here are some suggested steps for bringing eMINTS to your school
  1. Work with your building principal to form a committee of interested teachers, parents and library media specialists or special educators. Include the district technology coordinator or representative.
  2. Do some research about what is possible by reading through the eMINTS website – especially the program FAQ and then begin searching for possible funding sources – state, national, foundations, etc.
  3. Decide with the committee what type of eMINTS implementation you are interested in. Answer the following questions:
    • How many teachers in the building are interested in the eMINTS instructional model and are willing to make the time commitment necessary to change their teaching styles?
    • How many Comprehensive eMINTS classrooms can we support financially and technically?
    • How many eMINTS4All classrooms?
    • Who will deliver the eMINTS professional development to teachers?
(Note: in Missouri, eMINTS staff can deliver the PD or a certified eMINTS district trainer can do so. Outside of Missouri, the district must provide an individual who can complete the eMINTS train-the-trainer program, PD4ETS)
    • Do we have the support of our school board and community?
    • What are our possible funding sources?
  4. Most districts are not able to fund the equipment and professional development fees without a grant. Most grants require more than one classroom or subject area and eMINTS recommends that schools and districts implement eMINTS on a systemic basis with at least two Comprehensive eMINTS classrooms per school to begin.
  5. Apply for grant funding. Use the eMINTS applications & funding website to assist you with your application; choose the most appropriate grant funding source. eMINTS will provide a cost estimate for the professional development fees.A budget calculator is provided to help you determine how much you will need to create your eMINTS implementation.
  6. After you have secured funding for the eMINTS implementation — both for the necessary equipment and to pay eMINTS professional development fees — apply for eMINTS services. Find application details and forms....

In the meantime, please use our eThemes resources for finding appropriate websites for your use and your students’ use. Search the site for many wonderful resources available at no cost.

Some districts have sufficient local funding or pass special tax levies or bond issues to support their eMINTS implementations. Check with your local school district financial officer to see what is possible. For more information about eMINTS implementations and for case studies about eMINTS, see eMINTS publications.

A few other grant programs from foundations such as Hewlett Packard are available but you have to watch a variety of websites for current information and deadlines. One source is the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
