Description: These websites are about energy resources, but renewable and non-renewable. You can find information on fossil fuels, solar power, wind power, geothermal energy, hydroelectricity, biomass energy, fuel cells, and nuclear power. There are statistics, experiments, videos, interviews with scientists, and lesson plans.

This site gives an overview of renewable and non-renewable energy sources, and also covers issues of world consumption of energy and global warming. NOTE: This site links to a message board and a chat room.

Department of Energy
Explore this site to find extensive information on the U.S. Department of Energy's programs and offices. There are sections on solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, fuel cell, and biomass technologies, as well as educational resources, maps, and data.

Energy Information Administration
Here you will find offical U.S. government energy statistics, including the international energy outlook, latest statistics by state and fuel type, and current prices and supply information of different energy sources.

World Energy Council
This site provides energy resources profile by country or geographical region, and detailed surveys of fuel type. Some of the reports are quite long, but very detailed.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory
This site has lots of information about renewable energy and energy efficiency, including student resources and competitions.

Relying on Renewables
Read reports on biofuel research in Iowa, solar power development in Kenya, hydropower in China, or wind power in Denmark. Students can also learn how physicists define work, energy, and power, and how to estimate how much power an alternative fuel source can generate.

History of Fuel Cells
What is a fuel cell? Learn all about their history and fuel cell basics. There are detailed descriptions of the different kinds of fuel cells, and illustrations.

PBS: Fuel Cells
This interactive animation shows how a hydrogen fuel cell works. Explore this site further to find out more about fuel cells.

PBS: Hydrogen Hopes
Read interviews with hydrogen experts and watch clips from this program about hydrogen fuel technology.

ThinkQuest: Alternative Energy
This student created site discusses some of the problems associated with fossil fuel use, and explores possible solutions presented by alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass, or hydrogen power.

This site contains reports on different energy conversion processes including fossil fuels, hydroelectric, wind solar, and nuclear power, and their respective advantages and disadvantages. NOTE: This site contains a message board and the "Test" pages do not work properly.

PBS: Razing Appalachia
This page contains facts about coal strip mining, including statistics on the demand for coal and electricity production.

PBS: Extreme Oil
This site explores a wide range of issues surrounding oil production, including political, economic, evironmental, and social. There are several interactive features including maps and timelines, and lesson plans for high school students.

PBS: Dimming the Sun
Watch this slide show about clean air technologies as they apply to traditional power plants and newer, renewable energy sources such as wind and biofuel.

Hydro Power
This site gives an overview of hydropower, including illustrations and energy statistics.

PBS: Divided Over Dams
This page presents both sides of the controversy surrounding dams. The benefits of hydroelectric power are contrasted with the negative impact that damming rivers has on the environment.

PBS: Wind Power Basics
This page contains an overview of wind power and links to additional resources including an animation of how a wind turbine works, a chart showing sources of energy used in the United States, and a lesson plan.

PBS: Alternative Power Q &A
Read omterviews with some of the leading experts from the solar, wind, and distributive power industry to learn about the potential for alternative energy.

PBS: Beyond Fossil Fuel
Read an interview with physics professor Martin Hoffert in which he discusses potential technological solutions to our growing energy needs.

Pizza Box Solar Oven
Here is an activity for students that demonstrates solar power. Students can make a working solar cooker from a pizza box.

BBC: Iceland's Energy Policy
Read about Iceland's revolutionary energy policy and plans to become totally independent of fossil fuels.

Energy Quest
Click on "Energy Story" to read all about energy sources and energy efficiency. This site also has energy games, science projects, and other fun resources. NOTE: Several of the external links on the Games page are broken, and some lead to commercial sites.
