This is an interactive language course for beginners featuring audio clips, vocabulary lists, grammar tips, and more. NOTE: The "Talk" link leads to a discussion group.

BBC: Talk German
This is a ten-part introduction to German that includes audio, video, translation keys, and quizzes. NOTE: The "Talk" link leads to a discussion group.

BBC: Deutsch Plus
These ten topics build on the basics introduced in Talk German. The story follows Nico as he learns the finer points of speaking German. There are videos to watch, vocabulary help, and language keys. NOTE: The "Talk" link leads to a discussion group.

Internet Picture Dictionary: German
This interactive site has game activities where students can practice the vocabulary they have learned. NOTE: Site contains pop-up and banner ads.

Quia!: German Animal Names
What is the German name for a horse? Students can take this multiple choice quiz with pictures to practice their knowledge of animal names vocabulary.

This 17-slide PowerPoint presentation with sound demonstrates the pronunciation of sounds common in the Germanlanguage.

These sites about Germany have information on the country's history, regions, and traditions. See a live view from a Webcam, listen to the country's national anthem, learn some basic German words, and follow the instructions for German recipes. These sites are about the Holocaust and the devastating impact that it had on Jewish people and others. Also includes information about Adolf Hitler, concentration camps, crematoriums, and resistance fighters. There are videos of survivors talking about their experiences, plus many photos.
