This site discusses things to keep in mind when writing the plot of a story. Links at the bottom take you to information about setting, characters, etc.

Writing Steps Diagram
This diagram shows the five steps to good writing.

Short Story Writing Guide
This outline describes the elements that should be included in a short story.

Storyteller
This site lets you create an account and publish children's stories online as well as read stories from other students. NOTE: This site contains sponsored links and ads.

ThinkQuest: Collab-O-Write
This site includes samples of student writing plus a way to publish online.

Narrative
This teacher-created site includes a definition of narrative writing plus activity ideas.

Round Robin Suspense
Students can work together to create suspenseful stories using the prompts in this lesson plan.

Stone Soup: Writing by Children
This magazine publishes children's writing. Included on this site are poems and stories all written by children. Includes an address to submit student writing.

Creative Writing- Collaborative Stories
In this hands-on activity students write the beginning, middle, and end to three different stories.

BrainPOP: Types of Writing
Tim and Moby explain narrative writing that tells a story along with other types of writing.

Write a Review
Write a review of your favorite historical fiction book and it will be published on this website.

eThemes Resource: Writing: Realistic Fiction
Learn about realistic fiction, a genre of writing that has situations that could occur in real life. These sites include lists of books that fit into this category and a list of realistic fiction authors. There are also writing prompts to help students write their own realistic fiction stories.
