Teacher laptop & docking station

Must be installed and fully functional by Month 1; must be completed before PD session #1.

Things to consider

  • A back up computer must be available that can connect to the interactive whiteboard if the teacher is not at school and a substitute is in the classroom. The back-up machine must meet at least student laptop specifications so that instruction can continue. The back-up machine does not need to be a tablet if that is the teacher’s main computer.
  • Districts may have an additional teacher desktop computer in the classroom for routine administrative tasks, student information system (SIS), etc. These workstations must meet minimum student laptop specifications.
  • It is highly recommended that a docking station be purchased if funds are available.
  • If an organization chooses, it may use a docking station with the laptop or Tablet PC so the teacher works from a single computer. In this configuration, a back up computer must be available that can connect to the interactive whiteboard. The back-up computer must meet student workstation or student laptop specifications.
  • If an organization prefers to purchase both a teacher laptop and a teacher workstation, the teacher's workstation must meet minimum student laptop specifications.
  • K-2 teacher computers should have software used by students installed so it can be demonstrated with the SMART Board (kidspiration, Tool Factory Workshop, Scholastic Keys/Canvastic).
  • Districts must provide participants in the eMINTS PD, PD4ETS and eMINTS4All programs with a laptop or tablet that meets these minimum specifications.
  • Anything above minimum in hardware is acceptable (for example, upgraded memory, graphics card or sound card).
