FY08 equipment & software specifications
Official eMINTS classrooms
Official eMINTS classrooms must be provided with the full suite of hardware and software as specified by the eMINTS National Center.
Instructional functionality is key in an eMINTS classroom. To achieve the desired level of instructional functionality, specific Internet and equipment connectivity requirements must be met. Connectivity requirements may be met using either wired or wireless connectivity configurations or may be a combination of the two. In addition to Internet connectivity, equipment may need to be upgraded to include VGA or serial ports to achieve the following instructional functionality:
- Teacher workstation connects to interactive whiteboard
- Teacher workstation image appears on teacher monitor and interactive whiteboard
- Student work can be displayed on interactive whiteboard through a shared folder system or server
When pricing equipment, it may be more cost efficient to see what is available instead of giving the specifications. Many times, it will cost more to find machines to meet the specs exactly than current market machines that will exceed these specifications.
Minimum specifications
Equipment purchased for official eMINTS classrooms may be either PC or Mac platform and must meet minimum
specifications. Minimum specifications for each piece of FY08 equipment purchased
by participating organizations are accessible from the list below. Each organization is
responsible for purchasing equipment and establishing technical support on its
own.

July 23, 2007 - eMINTS equipment specifications require that student and teacher computers be loaded with Microsoft Office 2003. Districts have been reporting difficulty obtaining licenses for Office 2003 due to Microsoft’s decision to discontinue shipping Office 2003 to resellers as of June 30, 2007.
Beginning July 1, 2007, Microsoft requires that schools purchase the most current version, Office 2007. But then schools can request downgrade rights to Office 2003. One benefit is that when schools are ready to deploy Office 2007, they will already own the rights to that version. Schools will not be required to purchase the 2007 license again.
In Missouri one solution to the timing problem has been found:
World Wide Technology, (WWT) is pleased to offer Microsoft Select Licensing to the schools in the State of Missouri through the State’s Prime Vendor Contract. Schools can purchase licenses at the deepest discount levels available and still take advantage of Education pricing while avoiding the costly and lengthy bid process.
To take advantage of the Select Agreement Licensing through WWT or for additional information, please contact Linda Rice at (314) 301-2680 or linda.rice@wwt.com Linda is also available to assist schools with the downgrade process.
