Middle school/secondary student laptops
for 1:1 deployment in grades 5-12

Must be installed and fully functional by no earlier than Dec. 1, 2006, and no later than Feb. 1, 2007.

Things to consider

• A laptop cart that recharges the batteries is appropriate and spare batteries are necessary.
• At the middle school and high school levels, the equipment specifications may be set up using the traditional eMINTS equipment configuration (including one computer for every 2 students) in official eMINTS classrooms for content areas determined by the school. Middle school and high school implementations also may be set up with a one-to-one laptop distribution for students and complementary equipment for teachers (i.e., laptop, SMART Board and projector).
• A one-to-one laptop configuration for students is not recommended in grades below middle school. Handheld devices for student use are not recommended. Handheld devices for use by teachers or administrators are permissible with proper justification.

1. * Schools or districts with current site licenses for Inspiration may substitute Inspiration^® for SMART Ideas™ if all professional development is provided by a certified eMINTS instructional specialist employed by the district.
2. Anything above minimum in hardware is acceptable (for example, upgraded memory, graphics card or sound card).
